Detailed Itinerary

This Iceland tour travels the Ring Road, circling the entire island. We travel by luxury bus with many stops along the way and overnight in delightful hotels with excellent cuisines, comfortable rooms and plenty of time to enjoy each place. Most days we will practice yoga and some days, twice, keeping the schedule flexible to accommodate our travel.

Friday September 1  - Day 1

Saturday September 2 - Day 2

  • Late morning departure in our deluxe coach to travel the Golden Circle:
  • Thingvellir carries a monumental meaning for the Icelandic people and for all fans of democracy, as the oldest existent parliament in the world was founded there by no other than the politically savvy Vikings in 930. Again, in 1944, Thingvellir became of significant and historical importance as the place where Icelanders declared independence from Denmark after a very long time of being colonized by their Scandinavian cousins. But Thingvellir is also a World Heritage Site and not only for historical reasons but also due to its breathtaking nature and unique geographical and geological position on the world map. The wide valley is studded with dramatic fissures and broad lakes.
  • The Great Geysir and Strokkur natural hot springs eruptions
  • Friðheimar Farm visit to tour the hot spring heated greenhouses
  • Iceland’s most famous waterfall, Gulfoss, a spectacular double cascade
  •  Hotel Gulfoss

Sunday September 3 - Day 3

  • A early dawn walk to the Gulfoss waterfall for morning meditation (optional)
  • Secret Lagoon for a long soak in gorgeous natural hot springs
  • Travel to Kirkjubæjarklaustur
  • Afternoon exploring town and trails
  • Take a waterfall loop walk
  • Hotel Laki

Monday September 4 - Day 4

  • The Ring Road to Skaftafel Glacier in Vatnajokull National Park, Europe’s largest national park for a walk to the edge of the glacier
  • Jokulsarlon. Luminous-blue icebergs dramatically calve from Breidamerkurjokull, an offshoot of the larger Vatnajokull glacier and drift in the lagoon or out to sea.
  • North along dramatic cliffs and fjords to the small fishing village of Breiddalsvik
  • Hotel Blafell

Tuesday September 5 - Day 5

  • Making our way north we head inland, traversing lush, green landscapes with waterfalls everywhere then miles of desert and moonscapes. The scenery is dramatic and stunning.
  • Dettifoss Waterfall, with the greatest volume of any waterfall in Europe this is a spectacular force of nature
  • Lake Mytvan Region
  • Husavik
  • Husavik Hotel

Wednesday September 6 - Day 6

  • Whale Watching Tour on the Skjakfandi Bay, the northern tip of Iceland where the Atlantic and Arctic Oceans meet. Skjalfandi’s infusion of freshwater from two fresh water river estuaries brings high levels of nutrients that are collected in the bay. The plankton and sea plants attract multitudes of sea creatures. More than 23 species of whales have been sighted in Icelandic waters. The tour is aboard the world's first zero-carbon whale watching boats with North Sailing.
  • Afternoon free
  • Explore Husavik, docks and town
  • Visit the Phallological Museum (yes, really), Exploration Museum,  Whale Museum, or Husavik Church
